Holiday Posters: Let the Festivities Begin
Aside from egg nog, potato latkes or month-long fasting, nothing says holidays quite like holiday posters. Whether you are celebrating Christmas,
Chanukah, Ramadan, Valentine's, Halloween, or some other special occasion, holiday posters are an easy way to give a room a more festive feel.
More importantly however, holiday posters also have the power to make us stop and think about the meanings behind for our celebration. Paintings such as John Trumbell's The Declaration of Independence make us contemplate history and our place in it. Illustrations such as Norman Rockwell's Freedom from Want help us to reflect during our Thanksgiving celebrations how fortunate we are to live in a country where food is plentiful.
Holiday posters can also be humorous. Norman Rockwell's portrait of Santa Claus Reading His Mail must always elicit a smile, while C.G. Bush's
portrayal of Santa Claus, precariously perched atop a snowy roof with a sack full of toys, must always generate a chuckle.
